According to the SAPS Crime Statistics Third Quarter of 2024-2025 Financial year report, the top spot for Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition increased by 70% and 33.3% in the second spot. South Africa has one of the highest murder rates globally, with firearms used in more than 40% of homicides, says SaferSpaces and in 2023, there were 13.7 gun deaths per 100,000 people in South Africa, according to Pew Research Center.
