While employers may be of the opinion that employees should realise that having a job is a privilege and not a right, this attitude will do little to help your company when you have to constantly invest in training up new staff to replace lost employees.


Employee Satisfaction Surveys offer the opportunity for an employer to engage with their employees and work together to determine areas of their business that need improvement by giving employees a platform to speak their minds without fear of consequence or retaliation.


The benefits of conducting Employee Satisfaction Surveys are numerous, and can make the difference between a motivated, dedicated, and productive work force or a disgruntled, demotivated, and ineffective one. Employee Satisfaction Surveys allow a company to pinpoint problematic areas and priorities from the perspective of the employees.


Some of the most common reasons that employees resign from their jobs include:

  • They feel that there are no opportunities for growth in the company that will meet their personal and professional goals;
  • They believe that they are constantly inundated with work that detracts from their personal lives;
  • They are unhappy with the dynamic of their relationship with management

Having completed an Employee Satisfaction Survey, how can employers use the results to benefit the organisations?


First of all, employers must ensure that the results of the survey are handled appropriately, confidentially, and are used to address those concerns raised. Remember that these surveys exist to help your business grow, be more successful, and encourage employee loyalty. If complaints are directed at specific employees or members of management, then be sure to hold these individuals accountable in such a way that they are encouraged to improve their performance instead of feeling demoralised by it.

Secondly, rather than trying to address every issue raised by the survey, instead focus on the key issues that are likely to have the greatest impact on the ability of your employees to work effectively. By tackling the more pertinent problems that are raised by the surveys, you are more likely to demonstrate to your employees that you are committed to creating a better working environment and providing them with a platform that gives them the power to action change within the business.


Finally, ensure that you continue the process on a regular basis to keep tabs on what direction your business is moving in and if improvements are being made that address those concerns that were initially raised.


Ideally you should be surveying your employees on an annual, or even bi-annual, basis in order to keep your business dynamic and stimulate your work force. Making effective use of these survey results will let your employees know that you have noted their concerns and do have their interests at heart, while trying to grow your business. Demonstrate your commitment to giving them the value, recognition, and opportunities that they need to feel like they are an important part of the team.
