Citizens handle their own crime fighting

FOR most South Africans, the proliferation of the private security industry is the most articulate indicator of the burgeoning wave of lawlessness, much of it violent, swamping town and country alike. But should taxpayers get rebates for security costs? Absolutely, says labour union movement Solidarity.

In launching a campaign for tax rebates on security services, the trade union maintains that South Africans have, to a significant extent, become their own crime fighters.
