Self-defence is also one of the more popular reasons for gun ownership in the US, where a number of high-profile school shootings have put the issue of gun control on the agenda of president Barack Obama.

 

Although South Africans aren’t perhaps quite so passionate about their right to bear arms as their American counterparts, it’s still a right many hold dear and one which they feel is essential.

Jenny Reid, president of the South African Security Association, expressed fears recently that the ‘topsy-turvy’ growth of this industry had seen an increase in inexperienced companies operating within the sector, with many of the companies being run by unskilled people.
